We are happy to provide up to 10 Research Experience Grants to UK-based applicants. These grants are designed to support Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from UK institutions in engaging in joint research activities with a host institution to facilitate learning opportunities and collaborations in the area of HRI research.
Applications are now open and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis until the funds are exhausted or the project ends in June 2026.
Please read the following guidelines carefully to ensure your application meets all the necessary criteria.
To apply, you will need to provide the following information and documents through our online form:
Personal & Institutional Details: Your name, current institution, and an explanation of how you meet the ECR criteria.
Project Synopsis: A short summary of the project or activity you plan to undertake.
Letters of Support:
A letter from the investigator of the hosting institution where the research experience will take place.
A letter from your supervisor or line manager.
Cost Breakdown: An anticipated breakdown of costs, including travel and subsistence.
Please note that the grant will not cover equipment or experiment participants.
Agreement to Report: An agreement to submit a short report about your activity within one month of its completion.
Applicants: You must be an Early Career Researcher (ECR) from a UK institution.
ECRs include research students, postdoctoral researchers, and academic staff at an early stage of their careers.
Host Institutions: The grant requires a UK-based higher education institution as a host, but it does not support the host institution financially.
Funding: The maximum award is £1,000. This can ONLY be used for travel and subsistence, covering a single, up to one-week, stay or a series of shorter visits.
Intellectual Property (IP): We recommend that you discuss and agree on IP arrangements with the investigator from the host institution before beginning any activities. We highly recommend crediting input on papers through co-authorship.
Reimbursement: All expenses will be reimbursed after the completion of your activity. You will be required to submit an expense claim form with supporting receipts. The award covers only pre-approved travel and subsistence costs.
